Increasing the penetration of renewable energy sources in the distribution grid by developing control strategies and using ancillary services.

Dear readers,

The FP7 project INCREASE (Increasing the penetration of renewable energy sources in the distribution grid by developing control strategies and using ancillary services) was initiated in September 2013. The project duration is 40 months, the project focuses on how to manage renewable energy sources in LV and MV networks and provide ancillary services (towards DSOs but also TSOs). More information at: http://www.project-increase.eu.

This newsletter will not only give you information on ongoing initiatives, policy news, past and upcoming events but also an overview of the project results.

With best regards,
The INCREASE dissemination team

INCREASE  Final Conference: 11th - 12th October 2016, Ljubljana, Slovenia

INCREASE had its final event on the 11th and 12th of October 2016 in Ljubljana as part of the ISGT conference 2016.  The event had the motto: "From enabling more renewables in distribution grids to developing new business models". On 11th of October a session took place presenting the technical solutions for INCREASE, on the next day (12th of October) in total 3 sessions were organized, including a session that gave insights also into the field trials and the economic solutions. In the last session other related projects like EvolvDSO, IDEAL and DREAM were presented. A final roundtable and a poster presentation completed the day. The final roundtable aimed to answer important issues regarding a possible future decentralized electricity system.

INCREASE Final Technical Workshop: 28th November 2016,  Duiven, The Netherlands

The final technical workshop will take place on November 28th, 2016 at Alliander Office, Dijkgraaf 4. 6921 RL Duiven, the Netherlands and is entitled: "Increasing the penetration of distributed renewable energy sources in the distribution grid - Experience from field trials". This final workshop is targeted to share the experiences in the field trials of the project as well as with similar smart grid (demonstration) projects. The focus is on technological solutions to increase hosting capacity of the infrastructure to integrate more Distributed Renewable Energy Sources (DERS).

INCREASE Field Trials:

A brief insight into the Austrian field trial

The Austrian field trial is meant to test and evaluate the performance of the INCREASE local control for mitigation of voltage unbalances. For the purpose of the field trial, Energienetze Steiermark (ENS) provided a PV installation, located at the roof of their main administration building in Graz, Austria. More specifically, the PV inverters, located at the 10th floor were used. 6 single-phase inverters provide a nice playground to test mitigation of the voltage unbalances using controllable PV inverters with INCREASE unbalance control.

More information about the
successful results of the Austrian field trial is available here.

INCREASE meetings and presentations during the past 3 months

INCREASE participated at the EEM 2016, Porto, Portugal
(6th - 9th June).
More information about the EEM 2016 can be found here.

INCREASE will be present at the MedPower Conference in Belgrade, Serbia.
The Mediterranean Conference on Power Generation, Transmission, Distribution and Energy Conversion belongs to a series of Conferences that have established a major energy platform in the region. The Conference focuses on topics of interest to the Electric Power Industry. It intends to address the significant technological changes in all areas of the electric energy including business, products, equipment and methods.
INCREASE will be present with a panel session on 7th November entitled "Testing voltage control solutions in the lab: what are the challenges?"
For further information about this session click here.

INCREASE will also be present at the Barcelona Utility Week in Spain
(15th - 17th November 2016)
At this conference INCREASE will give a presentation during the session "INNOVATION IN GRIDS: ACTIVE NETWORK MANAGEMENT, FROM CONCEPT TO REALITY" on 17th November, 2016. A detailed program of the session is provided here.
